Shopping

For shopping, I recommend a few major areas outlined below, but you can find more scattered shops in my Google Maps link. I love the major department stores as they house many brands in one place.

1. Department Stores

  • LUMINE (ルミネ): One of my favorite department stores in Japan. There are stores throughout Tokyo for example Lumine 1, Lumine 2, and Lumine EST in Shinjuku 新宿. Another Lumine in Ikebukuro 池袋 and Yurakucho 有楽町 (Ginza area).
  • NEWoMan: Smaller and located in Shinjuku 新宿, contains a variety interesting shops. I personally love AKOMEYA TOKYO, bakery LE PAIN de Joël Robuchon, and matcha ice cream at The Matcha Tokyo.
  • Isetan: Also located in Shinjuku 新宿 this store carries many luxury global and Japanese brands. There are occasionally pop up shops here as well which I looooove.
  • Hikarie ShinQs (渋谷ヒカリエ) & Shibuya Scramble Square: These departments stores are similar to Lumine and Isetan respectively, located in Shibuya 渋谷.
  • Shibuya PARCO: Similar to all the above - a mix of Japanese and global brands.
  • Laforet HARAJUKU: More unique/edgy/kawaii shops. A must see if you're interested in Harajuku fashion.
  • Takeshita-dori street (竹下通り ): Close by / on the way to Laforet - you can check out Daiso on this street as well as many character and kawaii shops.
  • Marui: Mostly Japanese brands, the main one I go to is in Yurakucho 有楽町 although there is also one in Shinjuku 新宿 and Ueno 上野.
  • LOFT: Maybe not really a department store but is usually multiple floors with lots of cute stationery, beauty/health, home, tech, and travel goods.
  • Tokyu Hands: Similar to Loft - multiple floors of stationery, beauty/health, home, tech, and travel goods.
  • atré (アトレ): Cute dept store, I mainly go to the one right in Ebisu 恵比寿 station. Don't forget to check out the West building with Muji!
  • Daimaru: Lots of beauty counters, fashion, and a food hall in the basement. Would definitely check out especially if you're also interested in Tokyo station's character street as it's nearby the food hall in the lower floors.
  • Maru Biru, Shin Maru Biru, & KITTE Marunouchi: These 3 are nearby each other if you're coming from inside Tokyo station. Lots of fashion, food, beauty, etc.
  • Daikanyama 代官山: Very trendy almost minimalist atmosphere - lots of cute shops and a large Tsutaya book store and Ivy Place.
  • Other places to shop: Omotesando Hills, Tokyo midtown, Shibuya 109, Takashimaya, Keio, Seibu, Tobu, Matsuya, Mitsukoshi, GINZA SIX.
