Explanation (Footnotes)
Before my trip, I saved an image of Barcelona Metro Map on my phone and also printed a copy in case.
From arriving in Terminal 2 of Barcelona (BCN) Airport I followed the metro signs and arrows all the way to the R2N (RENFE) train station.
At the train station at the airport, I used the machines to purchase an Integrated Transport Ticket called T-10 (valid for 10 airport inclusive metro and bus journeys and costs €9.95 in 2017). Or you can purchase other tickets suitable for the duration of your trip.
I stayed in a hotel near the R2N train stop Passeig de Gracia which is pretty central/easy to hop on metro/bus or walk by foot. You can check all the stops R2Nord makes here on the Renfe website.
At my hotel, I would look up metro/bus directions when I have wi-fi. After purchasing the T-10 ticket, all I did after getting my google instructions was double check which metro lines and bus lines it could be used on on their network map.
